Fay Young Upholstery – Class Terms & Conditions

Welcome to the Fay Young Upholstery classes

These sessions have grown into a lovely, long-standing community, with many of you returning term after term. To keep the workshop running smoothly, safely, and enjoyably for everyone (new and returning), here are a few important guidelines to help maintain a sustainable and organised space.

Booking & Payment

Classes are booked on a full-term basis (usually 11–12 weeks), as this gives you the time to properly learn skills and work through your project.

Full payment is required before the start of term to secure your place. Term dates are released in advance, and a deposit is needed to reserve your space.

If a deposit isn’t received by the deadline, your place may be offered to someone on the waiting list.

Attendance

These classes are designed to be relaxed, friendly, and enjoyable, with a focus on learning at your own pace.

Upholstery is a slow craft, and projects take time—so when you book, you’re committing to the full term.

Projects

Each student may bring one project per course.

Before bringing your item into the workshop, please send:

  • A photo

  • Measurements

This allows me to approve the project and make sure there’s enough storage space.

If you’re a beginner, I always recommend starting with something smaller like a footstool or dining chair before moving on to larger pieces.

Missed Classes

If you miss a session, I’ll always try to help where I can.

You may be offered up to 1–2 catch-up sessions, depending on space in other classes.
Catch-ups aren’t guaranteed, and I’m unable to offer more than two per term.

Storage

Storage space is limited, so it’s important that projects are managed carefully.

If you’re not returning next term, all items must be taken home. You have 4 weeks to collect your project after your final class.

After this time, items may be removed or disposed of.
Please make sure everything is clearly labelled with your name.

Renewals

If you’re not planning to return, please give at least 6 weeks’ notice.

If no deposit is received and I don’t hear from you, I’ll assume your place isn’t needed and will offer it to someone else.

Workshop Etiquette

This is a shared, creative space, and I want it to feel welcoming for everyone.

Please:

  • Be kind and respectful to each other

  • Be patient—everyone works at a different pace

  • Tidy your workspace at the end of each session

Dustpans and brushes are available—just leave your space as you’d like to find it.

Materials

Materials are available on an honesty system.

Please record:

  • Your name

  • Date

  • Items taken

  • Cost

If you make a payment (cash or transfer), note this down too.

Balances should be settled regularly, ideally each half term or sooner if over £10.

Fees & Refunds

Fees are non-refundable.

If you cancel before the term begins and haven’t attended any sessions, a refund may be offered.

Once the term has started, your place is committed and non-refundable.

Liability

All students attend and work at their own risk.

Please take care when using tools and follow any guidance given during classes.

I cannot accept responsibility for:

  • Injury during sessions

  • Loss or damage to personal belongings or projects

Final Note

These classes are about enjoying the process, learning new skills, and creating something you’re proud of.

By following these guidelines, you’re helping keep my classes  friendly, and a well-run space that works for everyone— for both new faces and those who’ve been coming for years
